Inspire Create: Exercise 2 - Friday 8 June 2012

Inspire Create: Exercise 2 - Friday 8 June 2012

Todays exercise is not a drawing one, I like to mix it up as much as possible, so that we do some drawing, some writing and occasionally a photograph. Today's will be a small daydream/writing exercise.

Before you do the first step (close your eyes) you might want to read through all the steps:

a) Close your eyes and take a deep cleansing breath,
slowly in and slowly out.

b) As you settle into the quietness, notice the noises all around you, usually they are subtle, but by closing your eyes, you feel a new awareness of even subtle noise. You can hear perhaps a clock ticking, the breeze blowing, perhaps you can smell something. Just become aware of all these things and enjoy listening to them for a couple of mins and keep a mental note of them.

c) Choose one of the noises you heard, or smells you encountered and make up a little story or a small poem about it. Just a paragraph of say 2-3 sentences if you're writing a story.

d) If you feel comfortable, please post your story or poem here, with the sound/noise or the smell, that pre-empted your idea for the story/poem.

Story example:

I heard an aeroplane while I was quiet. This was the starting point for me to make up a story about a little girl who's father was returning home from war after two years abroad. She was anticipating his return with great joy, although she had almost forgotten what he looked like, but she could remember how he smelled fresh with shaving cream each morning when he would kiss her with his smooth face on the cheek.

Poem example:

The sky crisscrossed with lacy smoke,
my dad was on the plane to home,
I loved him then I love him now,
my dad, the cat and Clarence my cow.

It exists to help people find all the creative exercises I have posted on Facebook more easily. To engage and interact, to join in the fun, please join us at Facebook @Inspire Create with artist Karin Taylor and please post your contributions, creations and artwork on Facebook rather than this blog. Thank you and aloha, Karin
